Please be advised that the actual schedule may be different each term and will be given before and/or at the start of the contract.
Day 1 Arrival (Tokyo Narita Airport)

YOUNG LEARNERS PROGRAM TEACHING POSITION DESCRIPTION
 
Young Learners Program Teaching Position
Daily
  • Teaching up to 10 x 20-min classes requiring 1-3 lesson plans a day.
  • Thoroughly preparing for each day's lessons.
  • Keeping accurate records (lesson plans, feedback, and attendance).
  • Conversing with students outside of class.
  • Communicating with the Japanese English teacher or homeroom teachers when needed.
Weekly
  • Participating actively in the curriculum meeting with fellow instructors.
  • Sharing responsibility of conducting and recording the curriculum meetings.
  • Anticipating necessary materials for upcoming week's lessons and requesting them in advance as necessary.
On-going
  • Participating actively in all meetings and discussions.
  • Understanding overall Westgate goals and working towards their accomplishment.
  • Communicating any questions and challenges through appropriate channels.
  • Adhering to all Westgate policies as outlined in the Instructor Handbook, as well as any additional instructions given by your supervisors.
  • Being observed and/or having lessons videotaped as occasion demands and when requested.
  • Taking notes on individual student performance on an ongoing basis.
  • Making suggestions for the school and overall program.
Scheduled
  • Attending instructor/tutor training, orientation, seminars and workshops requested by Westgate.
  • Coordinating and taking part in Westgate-sponsored school activities.
  • Conducting sample lessons at various schools/client sites when needed.
  • Conducting peer observation if requested.
  • Writing instructor report at the end of the term.
  • Writing final student evaluations at the end of each term.
  • Attending meetings with school teachers and/or administrative staff members.
  • Attending school events when requested.
Other The Westgate Instructor (Instructor) is the day-to-day link between Westgate and our students. Westgate expects the Instructors to consistently promote a positive, fun, safe, and friendly atmosphere for all students. Instructors are expected to work together as professionals. Due to the type and size of the programs offered by Westgate, and the specific needs and constraints of this particular learning environment, it is necessary for the Instructors to be fully cooperative and understanding about adhering to the Westgate's educational principles (including lesson planners and teaching techniques) consistent with the mission of Westgate. It is hoped that each Instructor will communicate freely any ideas, comments, suggestions, or concerns about any aspect of the program through the appropriate channels.
