Westgate E-Learning Program is looking for individuals who are keen to tutor Japanese university students and business people online on a part-time basis.
- E-learning tutors will work at home and evaluate learners through five (5) oral assignments by telephone/internet phone and five (5) written assignments by e-mail (10 assignments in 10 weeks), with subsequent feedback reports which tutors are to send to students by e-mail.
- Please note that we are always looking for as many BACK-UP TUTORS as possible. For those 'waiting list' candidates, we will extend a formal offer of employment whenever there is a need for a tutor before and/or during the term. If you are able to join us on one or two weeks' notice and are interested in being on the list, please mention it on your online application form (in the 'Comment' box).
- Native speaker of English with a passport from one of the following English-speaking countries: USA, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland, or New Zealand
- Reside in Japan at one's own accommodation equipped with a land phone line, a phone, Internet access, and a computer (see below for preferred computer environment)
- Windows 2000 or newer with Internet Explorer 6.01 and service pack 1 or newer, Macromedia flash player 7.0 or newer, Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Outlook or Outlook Express), Acrobat Reader (preferable), Internet browsers that display Japanese characters (preferable), Internet access: ADSL or faster, and Valid and active anti-virus software.
- Bachelor's or higher degree
- Master's degree holders (degree must have been awarded) with EFL/ESL teaching certificate and/or elementary/primary/secondary teaching credentials/qualifications: actual EFL/ESL classroom/online teaching experience
- Master's degree holders (degree must have been awarded) without EFL/ESL teaching certificate and/or elementary/primary/secondary teaching credentials/qualifications: 1000+ hours of actual classroom/online teaching experience
- Bachelor's degree holders (degree must have been awarded) with EFL/ESL teaching certificate and/or elementary/primary/secondary teaching credentials/qualifications: 1000+ hours of actual classroom/online teaching experience with mainly adult students
- Have basic computer skills and be able to work at night (Japan time) at home
* No Japanese language ability is required.
1,000 yen for 30 min time slot per 1 assignment
- Speaking assignment: conduct a 10-min. assignment on the telephone + write a report in 20 min.
- Writing assignment: evaluate a submitted assignment and write a report in 30 min.
- Time to update learner lists is included in the 30-min. time slot
- Example of payment:
- Assigned to 30 students (30 slots): 15 working hours per week (30 min. x 30 ss), Payment 120,000 yen/4 weeks
- Assigned to 40 students (40 slots): 20 working hours per week (30 min. x 40 ss), Payment 160,000 yen/4 weeks
- Assigned to 50 students (50 slots): 25 working hours per week (30 min. x 50 ss), Payment 200,000 yen/4 weeks
- Assigned to 60 students (60 slots): 30 working hours per week (30 min. x 60 ss), Payment 240,000 yen/4 weeks
- WORKING VISA SPONSORSHIP is offered, if necessary.
